In this season of thankfulness, I want to thank our amazing teachers and staff for their commitment and caring for all our Lower School children. I want to thank the wonderful children for enriching all our lives everyday: for bringing us joy, inspiring us to be better human beings, and for touching all our lives in the most positive and rewarding ways. I want to thank you, our parents, for sharing your children with us, for supporting us and for caring so deeply for us and this School.
I hope that over the coming short vacation, you are able to spend time with friends and family, slow down the pace, read books, play games and take hikes.
In today’s Lower School Newsletter you will find information about our Thanksgiving Assembly and student progress reports and conferences; registration materials for Early Release Friday skating lessons; reminders about collecting lost-and-found items and about extended vacations; and updates for the week ahead.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our Thanksgiving assembly next Tuesday (don’t forget your canned good—see details below). If we don’t catch up personally, I wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.
Best,
Racheal
News and Announcements
Thanksgiving Assembly, Tuesday, November 22, 2 p.m., Thacher—We hope you will join us for our special Thanksgiving Assembly. Students and teachers are preparing a beautiful celebration of gratitude and giving in our community and we would love to share it with you. In support of our Milton Food Pantry, we ask that you send your child with a nonperishable food item to donate.
Lost and Found Items to be Donated—The lost and found bins in the Junior Building, Greenleaf, and the CSG are full! Please take the time over the next few days to check for your child’s belongings. During Thanksgiving vacation, remaining items in the bins will be donated.
A Note About Extended Vacations—As per our handbook: Though we are aware that sometimes there may be important reasons why families make this choice, we strongly discourage taking vacations outside of our regularly-scheduled school holidays. A letter describing the potential absence should be sent directly to the Lower School principal three weeks prior to a possible extended absence. Do not ask teachers to put together work or to make up work with your child. Your vacation should not place extra demands on the faculty.
Thank You—We offer our sincere thanks to our Head of School Todd Bland, our Lower School Parent Association and Lisa Donovan, our host and facilitator, for Tuesday night’s Fireside Chat.
Fall Progress Reports—Links for students’ progress reports will be emailed the week we return from Thanksgiving Break. Please print and review your child’s report in advance of your parent conference.
Parent Conference Sign-Up—A link to sign up for the Parent Conference will be emailed early next week. The conferences will be held on Thursday, December 1 and Friday, December 2 (Grades 4 and 5 will also offer limited slots on December 5, 6, and 8). Conferences are 35 minutes long.
Early Release Skating Lessons—Lessons will begin on December 2. Taught by Bay State Skating School, this program consists of five lessons taught on our Early Release Fridays from December to March. The skating lessons provide students with the opportunity to skate at Milton Academy’s ice rink in the ACC. Sign your child up for individual sessions or for all five. Click here to access the registration form. Additional forms can be found in the main offices of the Junior Building and Greenleaf. For questions, contact Noah Spofford.
