racheal-adrikoDear Lower School Families,

Join me in congratulating all our students who participated in yesterday’s Geography Bee. We had record participation—45 students, making the field more competitive than usual! I am delighted to announce Grade 7 students Alison B. (who began Milton in Kindergarten) as our winner and Matthew T. as our runner-up. A special congratulations to Jack W. for being our top Lower School student! It was so nice to see so many Lower School students both on the stage and in the stands. Thank you all for your enthusiasm! A special thank you to former Lower School teachers Scott Ford and Nancy Fenstermacher who returned to campus to celebrate this special tradition with us.

In today’s Lower School Newsletter you will find an announcement about Scott Green’s sabbatical, information about next week’s skating celebrations and updates for the week ahead.

Best,
Racheal

News and Announcements

Lyons-GBBSabbatical Replacement––This spring, Scott Green will be away on sabbatical and Jaclyn Lyons will replace him during his leave. Jackie, known as Coach Lyons in the Upper School, is in her inaugural season as head coach of our Varsity Girls’ Basketball team. Former director of the New England Playmakers club basketball program, Jackie is a 2013 graduate of Merrimack College, where she earned a B.A. in digital design. Her senior year at Merrimack, Jackie was ranked among the top 3–point shooters in the NE 10 Conference, and at the end of the season, she was presented with the “Warrior Award” for her good character, integrity, resilience, and hard work. Prior to coming to Milton, Jackie served as the director of national exposure events and camps for the Adidas Select Series, as well as a coach, advisor, and mentor for urban female youth in Boston for a nonprofit organization called G3 (Getting Girls in the Game). Jackie will be shadowing Scott next week and will take over his classes on February 2. Join me in welcoming Jackie to our community.

Skating Celebrations for Grades 3-5––The week of January 30, Grades 3–5 will complete their P.E. skating rotation. Grades 4 and 5 will hold their celebrations on Tuesday, January 31; the Grade 3 celebration will be Wednesday, February 1. Additional, grade-specific information will be sent by the Class Representatives.

Computer Coding for Kids Afternoon Sessions—We are delighted by the wonderful response to this offering. Registration for this class is closed. If you didn’t get a chance to register, look for this offering to become part of our regular After School Program in the fall. Participating students will receive additional information in the coming days.
